Day 1

Marshall Farm

Delve into the past with a visit to Marshall Farm, one of New England's oldest and most beloved estates. Marshall Farm is a great place to take the kids. The animals, rides, festivals and events bring smiles to the faces of little ones year in and year out. The scenery at Marshall Farm warrants recognition. Located on 98 gorgeous acres, the farm really does provide trendy entertainment in a bygone setting. Highly recommended, located on 340 Marshall Rd., Fitchburg-call 978-342-4100 for details.

The Old Mill Restaurant first served the community of Westminster as a saw mill where logs were processed for new homes. Today the mill serves exceptional food, in as they say, a "charming rustic setting." The restaurant is located just to the west of Marshall Farm, and truly complements a day spent at Marshall. Ownership of the mill has been a family affair for the past 86 years, and anyone dining at the restaurant is greeted with a "part of the family" feeling. For great food, in a spectacular atmosphere, the Old Mill Restaurant takes the cake. Located at 69 State Road East, Westminster-call 978-874-5941 for details.

Other exceptional "adventure and dining" combinations include:

  • Old Sturbridge Village and the Salem Cross Inn
  • Alta Vista Bison Farm and "Shrewsbury Street" restaurants ~ located on Shrewsbury Street, Worcester

Wachusett Mt.

Day 2

No matter the season, Wachusett Mountain has plenty to keep you entertained. During the winter Wachusett offers special deals, and a great opportunity for night skiing under the lights. Singles, couples and families alike label Wachusett Mountain as a great escape, and a real local treasure. For those of us who can't keep their balance on skis, a trip up the SkyRide will bring you to the summit, and provide a vista of impressive scenic views. And thankfully, it'll also bring you all the way back down, without any snow in the face. Located at 499 Mountain Road, Princeton, 01541-call 978-464-2300 for details.

Wachusett also offers great dining opportunities, but to spice things up check out the Union Station Restaurant. The train station itself is an eloquent reminder of old-time Worcester, and the restaurant does not fall short of expectations. With superb food and a uniquely "antique" atmosphere, Union Station the Restaurant deserves a look. Located at 2 Washington Square, Worcester, 01604. Call 508-831-7800 for reservations and details.

Other exceptional "adventure and dining" combinations include:

  • Nashoba Valley Winery and J's Rustic Farm House Restaurant
  • Ecotarium and Tweed's Pub Restaurant
  • Higgins Armory Museum and The Sole Proprietor
