Deborah Nurse, 508-832-0207
On August 5, 2008, 50 choir members from All Saints Church in Worcester, Massachusetts will depart for Worcester, England for the rare opportunity to sing in all of the ancient cathedrals (Gloucester, Worcester, and Hereford) that host the Three Choirs Festival.
The All Saints Choirs consists of boys, girls and adults and are considered to be the oldest of their type in the country. The young choristers train under the structure of The Royal School of Church Music. Choir members come from throughout Worcester and its surrounding communities. While in England, the choirs will train with choirmaster Adrian Lucas and the Worcester Cathedral Choir.
Preparation and fundraising for the trip has been extensive. Choir members have held traditional English teas, sponsored hymnathons, and sold more than 11,000 candy bars to help fund the trip. "The Worcester area community has been very supportive, and we are grateful for that" says Peter Stoltzfus Berton, Choirmaster. "Our choirs are prepared to serve as ambassadors, and we know that the training they receive in England will prepare them for even finer service when they return home."
A Bon Voyage Choral Evensong will be held on Sunday, August 3rd at 5:00 p.m. at All Saints Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. The public is invited to attend. For more information on the trip, visit : www.allsaintsw.org.
