The Canal District Walking Tour "By the Canal" has been awarded the "Award of Merit" from the prestigious American Association for State and Local History. The Award is a national competition and will be awarded in October in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Preservation Worcester Docent and Canal District Board member JoAnn Mills produced the Tour with funding from the Canal District Alliance, Inc. and the John H. Chafee Blackstone Valley National Corridor.
The Walking Tour, appearing on the back of the Canal District map, utilizes Quick Response (QR) technology for smart phone downloading and virtual touring. The QR application was developed by CanalDistrict businessman David Maki, Worcester Web, 65 Water Street. The subject buildings have the QR tag attached to their building.
The Tour can be down loaded from the Preservation Worcester web site or by scanning the QR tags on the Walking Map. The Tour is also available for IPods or in print from the Preservation Worcester web site. JoAnn Mills with Susan Ceccacci researched and wrote the textwhich was performed by local radio personality Mark Veau.
Congratulations to all for a great job and for putting the Canal District in the national spotlight.
