(Worcester, Mass.) - The EcoTarium, A Museum of Science & Nature, hosts its first Health and Safety Day on Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This new special event offers families and children a chance to get outside and learn first-hand about health, fitness and safety from vendors such as Wild Waters, Gold's Gym, Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, the Worcester Sharks, and the Worcester police and fire departments.
Ongoing activities and demonstrations will take place under the large tent in the EcoTarium's lower parking lot. WXLO radio will emcee the event and provide festival fun with music, games and prizes. The police and fire departments will be on-hand to teach fire and bicycle safety; children will also be able to explore a fire truck. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the Worcester Sharks will host a SharkHead Shootout, an interactive, mobile street hockey experience refereed by everyone's favorite mascot, FINZ! All that is needed to participate are sneakers and a positive attitude; the Sharks will provide professional basic instruction, nets, sticks, and street hockey balls. Plus, try your hand at golf with the pros from Cyprian Keyes Golf Club.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m., visitors can partake in ½-mile or 1-mile health walks along the partially-shaded paths on the museum grounds. While exercising, guests can enjoy the EcoTarium's animal habitats and scenery. Cool down with a water mist tent and complimentary refreshing beverages from Wild Waters.
"Health and Safety Day at the EcoTarium promises to be a fun and enriching event for our visitors," says Stephen Pitcher, President of the EcoTarium. "The activities will allow our guests to experience fun, hands-on learning, and we hope that they will walk away with some new techniques for keeping their families safe and healthy."
The building and grounds, as well as the popular Tree Canopy Walkway, will be open throughout the day. Health and Safety Day is free with museum admission and takes place rain or shine. Sponsorship provided by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
