Worcester Sharks President Michael A. Mudd released today, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, the Worcester Sharks 2010-11 regular season schedule. The Sharks home opener will be on Saturday, October 23rd vs. the Providence Bruins at 7:00p.m. at the DCU Center. Fans are encouraged to visit www.SharksAHL.com to view the schedule in its entirety.

The Sharks will commence the 2010-11 season with four games on the road, including two games in Connecticut on opening weekend (Oct 9 at BRI, Oct 10 at HFD). After a weekend visit in Norfolk (Oct 15-16), the Sharks will travel home to the DCU Center for a battle against their divisional rival, the Providence Bruins. The Sharks will raise their Atlantic Division regular season banner on opening night.

“We pride ourselves on providing families with weekend entertainment and this schedule does exactly that,” said Mudd. “For the fifth straight season, at least 75% of our home dates are on the weekend. We are extremely excited about the upcoming season and look forward to build off a banner year last season.”

Thirty-three of the 40 Sharks home games will be played on the weekends with 25 of the 33 occurring on either Saturdays or Sundays. The Sharks will host eight Friday home games this season with a new start time of 7:30 p.m. Sixteen home games will take place in 2010 and 24 in 2011.

The Sharks will face two new opponents this season; the Charlotte Checkers (Nov 27, Mar 5) and the Rochester Americans (Oct 29). The Sharks will square off against Atlantic Division rival, the Providence Bruins, for six home games with five taking place on Saturdays (Oct 23, Oct 30, Jan 29, Feb 5, Mar 25, Apr 2) including a special Halloween themed matinee game on October 30 at 1 p.m.

This season, the Sharks will play 16 sets of three games in three nights and seven sets of four games in five nights.

Start times have been changed to on the hour (7:05 to 7:00p.m. and 3:05 to 3:00p.m.) and Friday night games will begin at 7:30p.m. to accommodate traveling fans.

The team has planned several special 5th anniversary promotions throughout the season; including the raising of the Atlantic Division regular season championship banner on opening night, several bobblehead giveaways, a celebration of Worcester hockey history, sports celebrity signings, $5 Kids Sundays presented by Papa Gino’s, and much, much, more.

In conjunction with the milestone, the team has designed a special “V” logo and marketing campaign to be utilized throughout the 5th anniversary season. All season long, the team will wear a 5th anniversary patch on their sweater. Throughout the season, the team will introduce and wear a special 5th anniversary Worcester Sharks teal jersey with the “V” logo.
