This Thanksgiving, historians will re-create 1830s-style Thanksgiving foods and activities on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs., Nov. 25 through Sat. Nov. 27 with hearth cooking, Native American food traditions, musket shooting matches, presentations on the history of Thanksgiving, and a re-created wedding. For times and details: www.osv.org.
Costumed interpreters will demonstrate hearthside cooking (including the use of a tin kitchen), give thanks at a Meetinghouse service, hold an after-dinner target shoot, and otherwise celebrate this important American holiday the way early 19th-century New Englanders did. Learn about period table manners (such as eating with the knife, not the fork) and communal customs, including the popularity of holding weddings while family and friends were gathered for this holiday occasion. For an extra fee, enjoy a Thanksgiving Feast (for members, in the Bullard Tavern) or holiday buffet (in the Oliver Wight Tavern) of your own.

Relax by the fire or help roast your prime rib in our great fieldstone fireplace. Make your chowder in an antique iron cauldron over a blazing fire. Take a horse drawn sleigh or wagon ride through the New England countryside then chase away the chill with some nice warm mulled cider or wine. Peel an apple or two with our antique apple peeler/corer and help to make the deep dish apple pie that will be served for your dessert. Make sure you come ready to eat because Red Apple Inn will be serving seconds on chowder and prime rib! You'll love their fresh local butternut squash made the Salem Cross Inn way, freshly baked spinach pie, and the homemade muffins and rolls. It's a feast that you won't want to miss and will be talking about for days to come!
